Registration for Parent & Family Weekend will open in Fall 2019.
We are excited to welcome all parent & family members back to campus. Parent & Family Weekend is a time to re-connect with your student and explore both Washington University’s campus and the surrounding St. Louis community.
Many of our events begin as early as 9:00 AM on Friday. We encourage you to consider arriving in St. Louis on Thursday evening in order to take full advantage of all of our programs and events.
**Please note that some of the programs and events listed in the schedule are sponsored by student organizations. Student organizations have the option to publish these events in our schedule and coordinate the ticket purchasing process through the First Year Center; however, not all chose to do so. Additionally, some student groups choose to host student-only events over Parent & Family Weekend.
At check-in, we will provide you with a list of courses that are available to observe on Friday, November 1st. Feel free to attend classes with or without your student. If your students is in a class that is not on the list we provide at check-in, please have your student speak with their faculty member to ensure it is appropriate for you to attend. There are some small seminar courses that do not have additional seats in the classroom space. Additionally, it is possible some of these courses have scheduled quizzes or exams on Friday, November 1st. If you arrive to a course and this is the case, we ask you to find another to attend.
Please note, very few classes are offered on Friday after 2:00 PM. If attending classes interests you, please plan accordingly. Another note, at Washington University, classes begin 10 minutes after their published start time. For example, a 10:00 AM class does not begin until 10:10 AM as this allows our students to travel between academic buildings.
A list of classes are available to view online.
Please visit Interfaith Campus Ministries Association for details.
For families bringing prospective students to campus during Parent and Family Weekend, there are available Admissions activities during Parent & Family Weekend.
The First Year Center will also be leading walking tours for families interested in learning more about campus in general during Parent and Family Weekend.
Parent & Family Weekend is sponsored by the First Year Center. Is it just for families of first-year students?
Although the First Year Center coordinates Parent & Family Weekend, families of students across all undergraduate Classes attend the weekend. The majority of programs and events are for any and all family members and students. Additionally, the First Year Center supports family members throughout a student’s entire Washington University career.
One of the tours I would like to go on is sold out. Can I still attend?
After advance ticket sales have concluded or an event has sold out, we encourage you to stop by the Parent & Family Weekend Welcome Center on Friday or Saturday to see if there are available tickets. In limited situations, some family members are not able to attend an event and will inform us. At that time we will be able to provide updated information about availability of tickets.
I can no longer go on a tour or to an event. Who should I notify?
If you know you are no longer able to attend an event before Friday, we ask that you email us to let us know you will no longer be in attendance. This will allow us to update capacities and offer a ticket to other interested individuals. We are unable to process refunds after 5:00 PM CST on Monday, October 22, 2018. If you arrive to campus and are no longer able to attend an event or tour, we ask that you stop by the Parent & Family Weekend Registration (Mallinckrodt Center, ground floor) or send an email.
I have a family member who will need a wheelchair or additional accommodations during the weekend. How do I prepare for this?
If a guest attending Parent & Family Weekend requires a wheelchair, please contact Medical West at 314.725.1888. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide wheelchairs to attendees on campus. If you have additional accessibility concerns, please contact our office.
