Messages from the University

Follow up on safety and security in the neighborhoods around our campuses

Dear parents and families,

We are excited to have our students back on campus for the start of the spring semester! I am writing to share a message that Chancellor Andrew Martin sent out to all students this morning about safety and security in the neighborhoods around our campuses. There is nothing more important than the safety of our students and we take that commitment to safety very seriously. We know most of our students will live off campus at some point during their four years at Washington University, and we are fortunate to have so many vibrant communities surrounding our campus.

In addition to the information included in the Chancellor’s email below, we have also created a new position in the Division of Student Affairs, an Assistant Director for Off Campus Undergraduate Student Life. That person has already started this month as a member of our Residential Life team. The Assistant Director will partner with the Washington University Police Department, Parking and Transportation, and the Dean of Students to further enhance communication across the university and with our undergraduate students living near campus, and to help support all undergraduate students living near campus.

If you have specific questions about the safety of your student that are not addressed in the Chancellor’s email, please feel free to contact me or our Dean of Students, Dr. Rob Wild, at rob.wild@wustl.edu.

We hope you were able to spend time with your student over the winter break and we are looking forward to the spring semester.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lori White
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
